Bicester Hallions First vs Eynsham FC Match Report

MATCH REPORT SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER 2020
OXON SENIOR LEAGUE – DIVISION 1
BICESTER HALLIONS 3 V EYNSHAM 0

It was billed as the clash of the giants, top v second, would the game live up to the hype?
Once again the Hallions team was stretched to the limit with the injury list increasing on a weekly basis, with Stu Bridges now added to the list of crocks.
Hallions had another early injury scare with Wayne Blossom twisting his back after some 3 minutes, but fortunately he soon recovered.
Eynsham started rather slowly and showed a lot of indiscipline as they conceded endless free kicks, although they did create the first opportunity following a rare counter attack when an Adam Bowerman effort failed to hit the target.
Gradually the Hallions went into overdrive and only some brilliant saves from Eynsham keeper Connor Townsend denied both Liam Godin and Dan Smith.
Then in the 10th minute Townsend again stopped a tremendous strike from a Smudger Smith shot and as the rebound was fired towards the goal an outstretched hand of an Eynsham defender saw a penalty awarded, which Jamie Mundy blasted home.
Minutes later and Townsend pulled off another good save to stop Liam Godin from scoring followed by a Wayne Blossom header being scrambled off the line by an increasingly shaky defence.
In the 17th minute yet another needless free kick on Tai Thomas saw Sam Graham fire in and from the clearance Lewis Bland planted a perfect pass to Jamie Mundy, who with his back to the goal produced a tremendous overhead scissors kick to net a breath-taking goal past a bewildered keeper.
It was all Hallions and it seemed only a matter of time before the Hallions advantage would increase, but that keeper Townsend certainly earned his corn.
However for some unknown reason as Eynsham gradually started to regain their composure and discipline the Hallions lost theirs.
In the 37th minute Hallions Lewis Bland was shown a red card following a tackle on Byron Townsend, quickly followed by Matt Jenkins being sin binned.
Surprising even down to nine men the Hallions easily contained Eynsham to remain 2-0 at half time.
HALF TIME: 2-0
Eynsham came out for the second half looking to press home their numerical advantage.
In the 52nd minute Eynsham’s Adam Bowerman found Declan Green in space at the far post, but his poor effort drifted wide of its intended target.
After soaking up a reasonable amount of Eynsham pressure Hallions started to control proceedings as the visitors seemed to lose heart.
Then it was over in the 78th minute when a Godin – Smith combination set up Jamie Mundy to neatly head home past the unlucky Townsend for Hallions third and his hat trick .
Surprising despite playing close on 55 minutes with only ten men and 10 minutes with nine in truth Eynsham gave home keeper Reece Green a relatively cushy afternoon
FULL TIME: 3-0
REFEREE: Jon Payne
BICESTER HALLIONS SCORERS: Jamie Mundy [Hat Trick]
