OXFORDSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION
BICESTER HALLIONS 2 V CHARLTON UNITED 1
For the third time this season the Hallions came up against local rivals Charlton United with three league points up for grabs.
After a very uneventful opening spell it was the Hallions who drew first blood in the 10th minute when Tai Thomas launched a quality long range ball to pick out the alert Ryan Brooks who calmly rounded Colin Piggott in the Charlton goal before netting.
As the pressure mounted it came as no real surprise when in the 20th minute great play by Callum Tighe as the player found Jamie Mundy who produced his customary pinpoint cross to find the onrushing Stu Bridges who duly increased the Hallions advantage.
With the home team in complete control, it seemed a foregone conclusion that more goals were in the offing.
In the 32nd minute a 30-yard strike from Callum Tighe was well saved by Piggott, followed by another good save to deny a Wayne Blossom effort.
In the dying minutes of the half a Wayne Blossom volley whistled past the Charlton upright as the one-way traffic continued.
The early stages of the second half seemed to replicate the first half with Hallions in total control without adding to their advantage.
In the 50th minute a Piers McGlynn volley was somehow kept out by keeper Piggott with truly unbelievable point blank save.
It seemed a matter of time before the goals would flow, but that man Piggott yet again denied Ryan Brooks in the 60th minute.
Then in 63rd minute in their first real attack of note Charlton reduced the arrears with Ash Thompson scoring.
This seemed to lift the visitors with Ash Mcilrath looking increasingly dangerous in their attack.
Gradually the Hallions regained their composure to retake control of the game.
However, a combination of a dogged Charlton defence plus a continuing brilliant performance from the heroic goalkeeper together with a hatful of wasted chances saw the game peter out with no further goals.
With minutes left on the clock the day was summed up as a Ryan Brooks effort following good work from Tai Thomas struck the crossbar before it was cleared to safety.
However, the most important statistic was the three points gained.
