MATCH REPORT SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2020
OXON SENIOR LEAGUE – DIVISION 2
BICESTER HALLIONS RESERVES 1 V KENNINGTON ATHLETIC RESERVES 7
After a lengthy enforced break, footy returned to the Ashdene Road Superbowl.
Hallions Reserves had the honour in welcoming Kennington Athletic Reserves for the club initial Oxon Senior League fixture.
The game started on a perfect playing surface with new manager Darchy looking rather fidgety as he paced up and down the touchline at a high rate of knots.
The early pressure came from the visitors who quickly gain complete control of the game.
In the 5th minute Kennington created the first chance with Nick Giles outpacing a static home defence, but luckily his effort struck the upright.
As the pressure increased Hallions keeper Oggy made a great save to deny Matthew Crossan.
It seemed to be one way traffic, but thankfully striker Giles was in a charitable mood as he wasted a number of gilt edged chances.
Midway through the half just as the Hallions appeared to have weather the storm, they suffered a major blow with striker Vinney Orrey sustaining a leg injury with saw his immediate retirement from the action.
Then in the 25th minute the deadlock was broken with Charlie Clarkson giving Kennington a deserved lead.
The visitors doubled their advantage in the 30th minute from another Clarkson, although it looked suspiciously like offside.
At last striker Nick Giles found the net in the 40th minute, aided by a fortuitous deflection to give Kennington a 3 goal advantage.
HALF TIME 0-3
The 2nd half continued in a similar vein with Kennington dominating the proceedings. However it took a freak goal in the 55th minute from Matthew Crossan to increase their goal tally.
At last it looked as the Hallions had pulled a goal back with a Ricki Bridges thunderbolt from the centre spot, however his remarkable effort was chalked off.
Not to be deterred Jamie Leonard netted a quality goal in the 60th minute to reduce the arrears.
Was a comeback on the cards – fraid not, further goals from Simon Joyce, Dec Clerkin and Matthew Crossan completed a good days work for Kennington.
